Onyx Physio and Performance is a Hybrid Provider

We call ourselves a Hybrid Provider at Onyx Physio and Performance. What does that mean? Simply that you have flexibility in how you pay for treatment.

Your Payment Options

We offer every patient two straightforward options:

1. Insurance: We gladly accept many major insurance plans. Since we are constantly adding new plans, please call us at 703-679-8917 to verify your coverage.

2. Fee-for-Service: This option provides total transparency. You’ll never deal with hidden fees, loopholes, or fine print.

Our main goal at Onyx is to give you the best quality care possible without the restrictions or limitations often found in the complex healthcare system.

Using Your Benefits and Accounts

HSA/FSA Accepted: We DO accept payments through your Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Out-of-Network Reimbursement: If you choose the fee-for-service option, we can provide you with a Superbill. You can use this to submit a claim for potential reimbursement under your insurance’s out-of-network policy.

Financial Relief

We understand that finances can be a barrier. We never want cost to get in the way of your therapy, which is why we offer a number of payment plans designed to help you pay as you go.

Physical Therapy

Every patient begins with a thorough evaluation and assessment designed to understand your unique needs. We immediately equip you with the tools for recovery, which often involves manual therapy, corrective exercises, and an initial home exercise program. Our goal is to start your journey back to full, pain-free fitness and function right away. Future treatment sessions will be tailored specifically to your progress and condition.

  • One-on-One Treatment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy
    • Physical therapy is a key part of the healthcare system, where a skilled physical therapist uses diverse treatment methods to maintain and restore functional mobility for daily life. These approaches may include manual (hands-on) therapy, therapeutic exercise, gait and balance training, and even instruction on safety and daily living activities.
    • Choosing physical therapy is a smart investment in your health. Because we can evaluate, diagnose, and treat many musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and neurological conditions directly, physical therapy is proven to reduce overall healthcare costs on a yearly basis.
    • What Physical Therapists Do
    • The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) states that physical therapists are experts at:
    • Diagnosing and managing movement issues to enhance physical and functional abilities.
    • Restoring, maintaining, and promoting optimal function, wellness, fitness, and quality of life as it relates to movement.
    • Preventing the onset and progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities that result from injury, disease, or disorders.
  • Manual Therapy
    • Training in safe and effective joint and spinal mobilizations. These techniques can be beneficial for stiff or painful joints.
  • Spinal Manipulation
    • Spinal manipulative therapy, or SMT, is the application of a quick “thrust” to a joint or multiple joints to the target segment(s).  SMT is a “momentum-induced” technique that aims to target multiple joints within the spinal column or a single joint within the arms or legs.  These “manufactured-barrier” techniques are utilized by highly-trained physical therapists and/or physicians and are much different from the chiropractic approach, which is commonly referred to “locking-down/combined-leverage” techniques.  SMT can help improve joint range-of-motion, increase blood flow, decrease tissue restrictions and even improve soft-tissue mobility.
  • Dry Needling
    • Dry Needling is a skilled clinical intervention using thin, filiform needles to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular pain and movement impairments.  It is a technique used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle, fascia, and connective tissue and to reduce or restore impairments in body structure and function, leaving to improved activity and participation.
  • Cupping
    • Cupping has been used for centuries in the practice of Oriental Medicine (or Traditional Chinese Medicine) in order to treat all types of diseases. In the medical community, cupping is widely accepted as a therapy tool in order to treat neuro-musculoskeletal impairments causing pain. These impairments include muscle soreness, spasms, decreased flexibility, and reduced blood flow. The negative pressure inside the cups leads to an increase in blood flow, responsible for healing and repair. The cups also create a ‘stretching’ or ‘tension’ moment through the fascia underneath which leads to increased fibroblast activity. Fibroblasts are responsible for connective tissue healing, remodeling, and repair, and thus, reduces pain.
  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Work
    • Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, or IASTM, is the use of tools (rather than the therapists hands) for manual therapy interventions, specifically geared towards breaking down chronic scar adhesions and fascial plane restrictions.  Some IASTM tools may include Gua-Sha, cupping, FRAMS, kinesiology taping or use of a mobilization wedge.  These other manual therapy tools can help further improve tissue mobility, blood flow, reduce swelling and improve joint movement. The use of IASTM is another tool in the physical therapist’s toolkit to help jumpstart the functional restoration processes.
  • Tailored Exercise Prescription
    • Have exercises provided which are tailored specifically for YOUR diagnosis to meet YOUR goals.

Initial Evaluation & Assessment/ Follow-up Treatments: $185

  • Initial Evaluation
    • During your initial session, we take the necessary time to thoroughly identify any underlying deficits or dysfunctions. Pinpointing these issues is critical, as they may have caused your current injury or could increase your risk of re-injury. This careful approach allows us to minimize or eliminate the root cause of your pain and develop the most effective plan of care tailored just for you.
  • Follow-up Treatment
    • Follow-up sessions are designed to re-assess your pain and function to ensure we’re always progressing your treatment plan effectively. During these visits, we provide targeted manual therapies (hands-on work) as needed, adjust your personalized program, and implement corrective programming. This ensures your symptoms continue to improve and keeps you on track toward your goals.
